One day after we got our first good look at the Google Pixel 5 thanks to some leaked renders, the first photo of an actual device has surfaced.
A photo claims to show both the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. In addition to sharing the photo of the phones, the source posted some spec details to Reddit (via 9to5Google). However, they've since been deleted.
The Pixel 5 is the smaller device in the photo, and it lines up pretty well with the aforementioned leaked renders. There's a Pixel 4-like dual camera setup in a square camera bump, a rear fingerprint reader, and a "G" Google logo. The device appears to have a textured, possibly metal backside.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 4a 5G's backside looks similar, complete with the dual rear cameras and rear fingerprint reader. It's a bit larger and looks to have more of a plastic build.
The Pixel 5's spec list is rumored to include a display with a 90Hz refresh rate, dual rear camera setup with ultra wide cam and 12.2MP main camera, an 8MP selfie camera, and no 3.5mm headphone jack. Inside is said to be a Snapdragon 765G processor paired with 8GB of RAM and a 4000mAh battery, the latter of which is backed up with a Battery Information screenshot.
When it comes to the Pixel 4a 5G, it's said that that device will only have a 60Hz refresh rate, but one thing it'll have over the Pixel 5 is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The cameras are expected to be the same as on the Pixel 5, including ultra-wide and 12.2MP main cams on the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front, and a Snapdragon 765G processor will be inside. The Pixel 4a 5G is also said to have 6GB of RAM and a 3800mAh battery.
Google appears to be changing up its Pixel smartphone strategy this year. Rather than offering Pixel and Pixel XL flagships like it has the past four generations, it'll have just the Pixel 5 flagship and then the Pixel 4a 5G for folks who want a bigger display. While the Pixel 4a 5G will have some trade-offs, like only a 60Hz display and a little less RAM, it is expected to have the same cameras, processor, fingerprint reader, and 5G support as the Pixel 5, plus a bigger screen and lower price.
The Pixel 4a 5G will start at $499. Google hasn't yet revealed how much the Pixel 5 will cost, but we wouldn't be surprised to see it come in at $100 to $150 more than the Pixel 4a 5G. Both phones will launch this fall.
