If you use Waze to help you find your way around, there's a new feature being added to the app today that you can be on the lookout for.
Waze is rolling out alerts for railroad crossings worldwide. When you're navigating and approaching a railroad crossing, Waze will let you know about it.
The Google-owned Waze app actually began adding railroad crossing alerts in countries like the US, Canada, and Belgium earlier this year. Today it's expanding to more places like the UK, Italy, Israel, Brazil, and Mexico.
“Railroad Crossing alerts started rolling out on Waze earlier this year, however now that more people are returning to the roads following the COVID-19 outbreak we are highlighting this functionality to help promote road safety,” a Waze spokesperson explained to The Verge.
This can be a handy feature because sometimes you may not notice when a railroad crossing with a train on the tracks is coming up. Now Waze will alert you to an upcoming railroad crossing to help keep you safe. Plus, you can prepare for any bumps from the tracks.
If you don't want railroad crossing alerts, you can turn them off by opening the Waze app, tapping the Search button, tapping on Settings, and then tapping Map Display > Reports > Railroad crossing. You should then see a toggle for "Alert me when driving" that you can turn off.
