Nearly one year after making its original debut, Microsoft's Surface Duo is finally available for pre-order.
You can now buy your own Surface Duo at a starting price of $1,399.99 for a model with 128GB of built-in storage. There's also another version with 256GB of storage for $1,499.99. No matter which model you choose, you'll get your Surface Duo when it launches on September 10.
The Surface Duo is sold unlocked and is compatible with 4G LTE on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the US.
Now that pre-orders are live, Microsoft has spilled a full spec list for the Surface Duo. It's got two AMOLED screens that are each 5.6-inch 1800x1350, giving you an 8.1-inch 2700x1800 wide screen when they're both open. The 360-degree hinge lets you flip the displays around and use them in a variety of different positions.
The Surface Duo also supports using the Surface Slim Pen as a stylus.
There's a single 11MP camera that's been optimized with AI for both front and rear use. It's got phase detection autofocus, portrait mode, and an auto-mode with low-light and HDR multi-frame photo capture. Video recording up to 4K at up to 60fps is included, too.
Inside the Surface Duo is a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, and a 3577mAh battery. A fingerprint reader is located on the side of the device.
On the software side, the Surface Duo is running Android 10. It comes with a number of Microsoft apps preinstalled, including Office apps like Word and Excel, OneDrive, Edge, OneNote, Bing Search, and the Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
Finally, folks who purchase a Surface Duo will get an 18W wall charger in the box as well as a bumper case to help protect their device.
At a starting price of $1,399.99, the Surface Duo isn't cheap, though other foldable devices are just as pricey if not more so. The Surface Duo does have a larger combined display than most other foldables that we've seen so far, but it's lacking 5G support. All in all we're glad to see Microsoft getting back into the mobile game with a device like the Surface Duo, and we're looking forward to seeing how the device performs and how apps will be adapted to work on its dual displays.
