Microsoft has been saying for months now that the Xbox Series X will launch in the holiday 2020 season. Today we're getting a (slightly) more specific release timing.
The Xbox Series X will launch globally this November. Microsoft isn't talking price quite yet, but it is promising that there are more than 50 new games planned for this year across generations and optimized for Xbox Series X, including Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Gears Tactics, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Watch Dogs: Legion.
There will also be more than 40 popular games getting new optimizations to take advantage of the Xbox Series X. Those include Destiny 2, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, and Madden NFL 21. Xbox Series X owners will be able to play backward compatible games from the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, too.
One game that won't be available on the Xbox Series X this year is Halo Infinite. Developer 343 Industries revealed today that Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021 from its original holiday 2020 release window.
343 Industries blames multiple factors that've made development of Halo Infinite more difficult, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
"The decision to shift our release is the result of multiple factors that have contributed to development challenges, including the ongoing COVID-related impacts affecting us all year," explains Chris Lee, studio head for Halo Infinite. "I want to acknowledge the hard work from our team at 343 Industries, who have remained committed to making a great game and finding solutions to development challenges. However, it is not sustainable for the well-being of our team or the overall success of the game to ship it this holiday."
