We're likely getting close to the announcement of Huawei's Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro flagships, but as is usually the case with highly-anticipated phones, both of those devices have leaked out ahead of their official reveal.
New renders claim to show the designs of both the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the regular Mate 40. These images aren't official from Huawei but are based on factory CAD drawings.
At the top of this post is the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. Shared by OnLeaks and Pricebaba, one of the biggest changes from the Mate 30 Pro to this device is that Huawei has ditched the notch and opted instead for a pill-shaped hole-punch with two selfie cameras. The curved edge display is said to measure 6.7 inches and include an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
On the right side of the Mate 40 Pro we can see volume and power buttons, and around back is a big, round camera bump with four sensors. There's a USB-C port on the bottom of the device for charging, and up top are two cutouts that are said to be sensors, possibly including an IR blaster.
The Mate 40 Pro is said to measure 162.8mm x 75.5mm x 9mm. To compare, the Mate 30 Pro is 158.1mm x 73.1mm x 8.8mm.
And then there's the regular Mate 40, which the images from OnLeaks and HandsetExpert show will also ditched the notch found on the Mate 30 for a dual camera hole-punch. There's a big round camera bump on the back of the Mate 40, too, but there's only three cameras in that bump rather than the quad setup of the Mate 40 Pro.
The Mate 40 also has a USB-C port on the bottom, volume and power buttons on the right side, and the same two mysterious sensors on the top of the device.
The Huawei Mate 40 reportedly measures in at 158.6mm x 72.5mm x 8.9mm. Last year's Mate 30 is 160.8mm x 76.1mm x 8.4mm.
Huawei announced the Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 in mid-September last year, so we could be just a month-and-a-half or so anyway from getting our official introduction to the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40.
The hardware that we're seeing in these images is pretty attractive and Huawei is known for top-notch camera performance, so that definitely has us interested in the Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40. Because Huawei is still facing a US ban that means it can't load Google's Android apps onto these devices, though, they could ultimately be a tough sell for many people.
