Google One has been offering phone backup to its paid users with Android devices since last year. Now it's making that feature available to many more people, including iPhone users.

Google said today that it's expanding some Google One features to free users. That means that Android users with can now enjoy automatic phone backup even if they're on the free tier that includes 15GB of storage with your Google Account.

Plus, a new Google One app for iOS is launching that'll back up your iPhone's photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events. This feature will also be available to users on the free Google One tier.

Apple does offer iPhone owners 5GB of iCloud storage that they can use to backup their phones, and so lots of folks will probably using that. Still, it's good to see Google extending its free backup to iPhone owners, giving them another option for backing up their important data that could also make switching to Android a bit easier later on if they choose to do so.

If 15GB isn't enough space for your backups, Google Photos, Gmail, and Google Drive, you can pay to upgrade to more storage. Options range from 100GB for $2 per month or $20 per year up to 2TB for $10 per month or $100 per year.

Also announced today is a new storage manager in the Google One app and on the web. This will make it easier for you to see what's taking up your Google One cloud storage and help you free up space if you'd like.

Google says that all of these new features will be coming to Android phones with an update to the Google One app that'll hit the Play Store in the coming days. The Google One app for iOS will launch "soon".
