Today's a big day for OnePlus because in addition to introducing a new smartphone in the Nord, it's also officially revealed its first pair of truly wireless earbuds.
The OnePlus Buds will launch in a white color option on July 27, with a gray version to follow in early August. Whichever color you prefer, you can expect to pony up $79 to make the OnePlus Buds yours. OnePlus is also prepping a special Nord Blue version of the Buds that'll only be available in the EU and India.
One of the main features of the OnePlus Buds is battery life. Each earbud includes a 35mAh battery that'll get you up to 7 hours of music playback on a single charge. There's a 430mAh battery in the charging case that'll get you 3 more recharges, giving you a total of 30 hours of use before you need to recharge.
When it does come time to plug back in, the Buds use OnePlus's Warp Charge fast charging tech to get you 10 hours of music playback in just 10 minutes. The Buds feature wired charging over USB-C.
Of course, another important feature of the OnePlus Buds is sound. OnePlus touts that the Buds have 13.4mm dynamic drivers plus bass boost and Dolby Atmos support. They've also got three active microphones built into each earbud to reduce ambient noise so that you can hear your audio better.
The OnePlus Buds feature a half in-ear design and IPX4 water resistance to help them stand up to splashes of water and your sweaty workouts. A Fast Pair feature will help you quickly connect your Buds to smartphones running Android 6 or higher, and there are auto-on/off sensors as well.
OnePlus is also cooking up some special Buds features for folks who also own a OnePlus smartphone. The Fnatic Mode will reduce audio latency to 103ms, and later this month, updates will roll out to the OnePlus 6, 7, and 8 phones that bring support for customizable double-tap functions on the Buds such as play/pause, skip tracks, answer and end calls, and voice assistant activation.
The market for truly wireless earbuds has been heating up the past year or two, but the OnePlus Buds have some features to help them stand out. The 30 hours of battery life that you can get with the charging case beats the truly wireless earbuds from some other major mobile companies out there. And then there's the $79 price tag, which could help make the OnePlus Buds appealing to a lot of folks because it's an aggressive price compared to lots of other truly wireless earbuds out there.
Now that they're official and we know their features and pricing, what do you think of the OnePlus Buds? Will you be buying a pair?
