Recently we've seen a few foldable smartphones launch and offer something different than the black slab form factor that most phones have nowadays. Today a new report says LG is planning a device with another new form factor.
LG is planning to launch a new rollable smartphone early next year, claims a report from The Elec. The device is codenamed Project B, a name based on LG Electronics CEO Kwon Bong-seok.
This Project B rollable phone will reportedly extend sideways to give you more screen when you need it. This is achieved by using a fleible OLED screen that rolls up at the sides of the phone when not in use and then unrolls when you want more screen space.
It's said that Chinese display maker BOE is co-developing Project B's rollable display with LG Electronics.
LG has had it a bit rough in the smartphone market lately, posting several quarters of loss in a row. Because of that, the company seems to be trying to shake things up with different strategies and form factors. Earlier this year LG launched a new product road map with the Velvet, and in addition to this Project B rollable phone, rumors have said that LG is also making a phone codenamed "Wing" with a second swiveling display.
Today's report also mentions that LG is working on a new flagship phone codenamed Rainbow that'll arrive in the first half of 2021.
