Many video streaming services offer some sort of free trial for new users, letting you try the service and check out its video catalog before plunking down cash for a membership. This week, though, one high-profile video streaming service gave its free trial the axe.
Disney+ no longer offers the free 7-day trial that had been available since the service's launch late last year. The offer is no longer available on the Disney+ website, and Disney confirmed to CNET that it has stopped offering a free trial.
"The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own," a Disney spokesperson said.
The end of the free trial is especially notable because it comes just 2 weeks before Disney+ releases a filmed version of Hamilton that stars the original Broadway cast.
There are other major streaming services that still offer free trials. For example, both Netflix and Hulu give new customers a free month before asking them to pay, and the new HBO Max has a 7-day free trial available. One thing that Disney+ does have going for it is that it's a bit cheaper than many other major streaming services at $7.99 per month, so it is a little easier on your wallet if you're interested in Disney+ and want to try it out for a month.
