Ever since it launched, one of the main aspects of Twitter has been its text-based tweets and the character limit. Twitter recently doubled that character limit from 140 to 280, but starting today, it's rolling out a new feature that lets you use voice to send even longer messages.

Twitter today announced a new voice tweet feature that's now in testing. Each tweet can include up to 140 seconds of audio, but if you do reach that limit, you can just keep talking because Twitter will automatically start a new voice tweet and create a thread.

To create a voice tweet, you'll just open the tweet composer window and tap on the new wavelength button. 

If you see a voice tweet in your timeline, you can tap the image to start listening. On iOS only, the playback will start in a new window that's docked at the bottom of your timeline, letting you continue scrolling through your feed while listening to the voice tweet. You can also listen while doing other things on your phone.

The ability to create voice tweets will only be available to a limited number of users on Twitter for iOS to start. It'll expand to everyone on iOS in the coming weeks. There's no word yet on when the feature might begin rolling out on Android.
