Three months after making its official debut, the Sony Xperia 1 II is ready to launch in the US.
The Xperia 1 II (pronounced "Xperia 1 mark two") will be available for pre-order on June 1 and will launch on July 24. Pricing for this new Sony flagship will be set at $1,199.99. Customers who pre-order before June 28 will get a pair of Sony's WF-1000XM3 truly wireless earbuds (normally $230) for free.
Sony's Xperia 1 II will be sold unlocked and it'll be compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket, and Metro by T-Mobile in the US.
As you might expect from a Sony Xperia flagship, one of the focuses of this device is camera performance. It's packing three 12MP rear cameras — wide, ultrawide, and telephoto — and there's also a 3D ToF sensor to help with faster autofocus.
The main 12MP cam includes a 1/1.7" Exmor RS for mobile sensor which Sony says is 1.5x more sensitive than the previous version to give you faster and more accurate autofocus in low light.
Sony also touts that the Xperia 1 II offers up to 20fps burst shooting with autofocus and autoexposure enabled, which could come in handy when you're capturing fast-moving subjects like kids or sports. Another camera feature is Real-time Eye AF, which locks focus on the subject's eye for better portrait mode shots, and it works on animals as well as people so that your photos of your dog or cat will look just as good as the ones of you.
There's a Snapdragon 865 processor packed into the Sony Xperia 1 II as well as 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage, and there's a microSD card slot that'll let you add up to 1TB of additional storage if you need it. A 4000mAh battery powers the whole package, and you can recharge using USB PD fast wired charging or Qi wireless charging.
The display on the Xperia 1 II is a 6.5-inch 3840x1644 OLED display with 21:9 aspect ratio. Sitting above that screen is an 8MP selfie cam.
Sony has included a fingerprint reader on the side of the Xperia 1 II, a 3.5mm headphone jack up top, and it's made the whole device IP68 water resistant. On the software side, the Xperia 1 II ships with Android 10 in tow.
