We've been hearing about Apple's over-ear headphones for years now, but according to the latest report, they may finally be launching soon.
Apple is reportedly targeting a June WWDC launch for its over-ear headphones. That's according to Front Page Tech's Jon Prosser, who has been told by sources that these headphones are codenamed B515 and will sell for $350.
That price would put Apple's over-ear headphones in the same category as the Bose 700 headphones. Those are Bose's high-end wireless headphones that offer 11 levels of noise cancellation and up to 20 hours of battery life.
Today's report also offers some details on the AirPods X. These are said to be focused on sports and running usage, similar to the Beats X, and they could be what some rumors have referred to as the "AirPods Pro Lite".
The AirPods X will reportedly cost around $200 and is being targeted for a launch around September or October.
Finally, Prosser says that Apple's ultimate goal is to phase out the Beats brand. That's not something that's going to happen overnight because Apple still sells several models of Beats headphones and just launched new Powerbeats last month.
That said, it does make some sense that Apple would want to eventually phase out Beats. Apple now has its own AirPods brand of headphones that have become extremely popular, and the company would probably prefer selling headphones that it designed with its logo. Currently AirPods are only available in truly wireless earbud form factor, but today's report suggests that the AirPods family will be expanding to include more types of headphones which would help Apple's goal to phase out Beats in the future.
