Xiaomi's Redmi family of smartphones is known for offering more premium Android features in aggressively-priced packages, and the two newest Redmi phones are no different.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (above) and Redmi Note 9 Pro (below) were unveiled today. The two phones share many of the same specs, including a 6.67-inch 2400x1080 display and octa-core Snapdragon 720G processor. There are a few differences between the two that you should be aware of, though.
While both phones have a quad rear camera setup, the Redmi 9 Pro Max boasts a 64MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 main sensor with a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor and f/1.89 aperture. The Redmi 9 Pro's main camera isn't quite as high-end, as it's a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM2 cam with 1/2.25-inch CMOS sensor and f/1.89 aperture.
Each model adds an 8MP ultra wide angle cam with 119-degree field of view, 5MP macro camera, and 2MP depth sensor to round out their rear camera array.
Around front, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max boasts a 32MP selfie cam that lives inside a hole-punch at the top of its screen, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro has "just" a 16MP selfie cam.
Another notable difference between the two phones is their RAM. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is a bit better equipped, packing up to 8GB of RAM, but the Redmi Note 9 Pro is no slouch with up to 6GB. Both models come with 128GB of built-in storage as well as a microSD card slot and dual SIM slots.
Both the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and Redmi Note 9 Pro are equipped with a 5020mAh battery, but Redmi Note 9 Pro Max owners will be able to charge a bit more quickly out of the box thanks to the included 33W fast charger. Redmi Note 9 Pro owners will get an 18W fast charger with their device.
Rounding out the feature sets of these two Redmi phones, they've both got a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, an IR blaster, and Gorilla Glass 5 covering their front, back, and rear cameras. Xiaomi also touts that both phones have a Z-axis linear vibration motor to enable a "flagship-like haptic experience" with more than 150 custom vibration patterns across the UI.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is launching first in India on March 17th, with pricing starting at ₹12,999 ($175 USD) for the 4GB/64GB model and going up to ₹15,999 ($215 USD) for the 6GB/128GB model.
A little more than one week later, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max will arrive in India as well. It'll launch on March 25th at a starting price of ₹14,999 ($201 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model while the 6GB/128GB version will cost ₹16,999 ($228 USD) and the top-end 8GB/128GB variant will be ₹18,999 ($255 USD).
