The high-refresh rate display is a trendy feature in high-end smartphones now, especially when it comes to gaming phones. There have been a few phones that've launched with 120Hz displays, but Red Magic's new device pushes things to 144Hz.
The Red Magic 5G is a new gaming phone that sports the world's first 144Hz refresh rate display on a gaming phone. The 6.65-inch AMOLED screen also features an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Because the Red Magic 5G is a gaming phone, you might be expecting it to be loaded up with high-end specs. You'd be right. It's got an octa-core Snapdragon 865 processor paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, both of which offer faster performance than previous generations.
Red Magic has also given its new phone built-in shoulder trigger buttons to give you a better gaming experience. These triggers have a 300Hz touch refresh rate and 2ms touch delay to better emulate the feel of a real controller.
Another gaming-focused feature of the Red Magic 5G is its Active Liquid-Cooling feature. Using Turbo Fan 3.0 tech, the Red Magic 5G boasts 200% better cooling than previous Red Magic phones as well as 30% increased air flow to help keep your device cool during intense gaming sessions.
There's a triple rear camera setup on the Red Magic 5G that includes a 64MP main camera with Sony IMX686 sensor as well as an 8MP wide angle camera and 2MP depth camera for portrait mode photos with bokeh. Around front is a 12MP selfie camera.
Rounding out the Red Magic 5G's feature set is a 4500mAh battery that supports up to 55W fast charging.
The Red Magic 5G launched in China this week and will begin rolling out globally in April. Pricing starts at 3799 CNY ($542 USD) for the model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and goes up to 4099 CNY ($585 USD) for the 12GB/128GB version.
With its shoulder buttons and unique design, there's no doubt that the Red Magic 5G is a gaming phone. Its specs could make it a pretty attractive option to just about any phone enthusiast, though, offering the latest Snapdragon processor, a bunch of RAM, and a display with a super high refresh rate. We're definitely looking forward to seeing what that 144Hz screen looks like in person.
