It can be a huge pain when you need to get your smartphone fixed. Not only is one of the most important devices in your life broken, but you need to take time out of your personal or work schedule to get a repair. Apple's new repair service aims to reduce that burden a bit.
Apple recently began offering onsite device repairs. The service is offered through Go Tech Services, an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
To get your iPhone repair at your home or work, you can visit Apple's support site to begin the process of scheduling a repair. If onsite repairs are offered in your city, you can choose Go Tech Services to have them come to you.
As noted by MacRumors, onsite repairs are currently available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Houston, and Dallas.
Apple says that selecting an onsite repair may result in an onsite visit fee being charged in addition to the regular repair cost.
While these onsite repairs offer more convenience that visiting an Apple Store for a repair, they do appear to be a bit more limited in the services that that can provide. Go Tech Services was available when requesting an iPhone screen repair, but not for a battery replacement.
There are plenty of third-party repair services that offer onsite repairs, and so it's great to see Apple trying something similar. We'll have to wait and see if the program expands, but there are likely quite a few people who would love the option of having an Apple Authorized Service Provider come to them to fix their broken iPhone so they don't have to interrupt their busy lives.
