After introducing a Dual Screen attachment alongside the LG V50 ThinQ earlier this year, LG is now announcing an updated version along with a new phone that can use it.
The LG G8X ThinQ is now official along with a new Dual Screen accessory. The Dual Screen adds a second 6.4-inch 2340x1080 OLED screen to the LG G8X, and it adds a 2.1-inch mono screen on its outside that'll let you check the time, date, battery charge, notifications, and other info without opening up the Dual Screen case.
LG says that the new Dual Screen also has a 360 Freestop Hinge that'll let you view it at any angle, which is an upgrade from the original Dual Screen's two viewing angles. The new Dual Screen also connects over USB-C instead of Pogo Pins for a cleaner-looking phone when the case isn't attached.
As for the LG G8X ThinQ itself, it features a 6.4-inch 2340x1080 OLED screen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP standard camera and a 13MP wide angle cam with a 136-degree field of view. Living in the notch at the top of the G8X's screen is a 32MP selfie camera.
LG has also equipped the G8X ThinQ with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and microSD card slot. There's a 4000mAh battery inside the G8X, up from the 3500mAh battery in the standard G8, as well as 1.2W stereo speakers, a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, IP68 water and dust resistance, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The LG G8X ThinQ and its Dual Screen case will launch in "key markets" in Q4 2019. No pricing details have been announced.
LG's Dual Screen attachment is an interesting alternative to the popular foldable smartphone trend that we're seeing this year. With it, you can have a regular smartphone when you want it and a bigger, dual-screen device at other times. This does mean you'll need to carry the Dual Screen attachment with you, though, so you don't find yourself out and wanting that second screen but not having it handy.
