OnePlus has managed to make a name for itself over the years. It's technically still a small company, compared to the massive entities it competes with, but there's no doubt that it has made a huge impact in the smartphone industry. A big enough one to actually force the hand of companies like Samsung, LG, or even Apple? Probably not. But as long as the customers are happy that's not really an essential part of OnePlus's business.

The smartphones the company has launched over the years have been solid efforts. It may have been rough going right out of the gate, but that had more to do with a lottery system and limited amount of handsets. But as OnePlus figured things out, and smartphone launches got ironed out, the company found itself in a groove.

As such, launching additional products beyond its phone became a possibility.

Now OnePlus offers a variety of things from its online store. That includes protective cases for its phones, but also cables, chargers, travel bundles, and wireless headphones. OnePlus even sells a couple of different backpacks! And yet, the company's wildest new addition is coming later this year: a OnePlus-branded TV.

OnePlus's CEO, Pete Lau, says the upcoming TV is part of the company's push into the Internet of Things (IoT), where it can offer up an entire ecosystem of devices. In this case, we've got an Android TV-powered television. OnePlus is working with Google to optimize the software on the TV, so it sounds like the company is going all-in with its first television set.

Rumor has it that the TV will be available in a variety of different sizes, ranging from 43 inches to 75 inches. We don't know how much it will cost, what it looks like, or even any of the important technical specs just yet, but OnePlus has already confirmed the TV will debut in September so we don't have long to wait to find out.

This launch is a bit different from a smartphone, and this might not be an "automatic buy" as some upgrades might be. This is a TV after all and it probably won't be cheap (especially as the screen sizes get bigger). And, if you're anything like me, then the technical specs absolutely matter. So even if you're in the market for a new TV, this feels like a wait-and-see situation.
