Google Assistant is getting more useful today with new Assignable Reminders.

With Assignable Reminders, you can now create reminders specifically for other people in your house. This means that you could say something like, "Hey Google, remind Greg to take out the trash at 8:00 pm" and Greg will get an alert on his phone, smart speaker, and Assistant-enabled smart display when the reminder is created so that he's aware of it.

This feature also works for location-based reminders with a specific address or landmark. So you could say something like, "Hey Google, remind Claire to pick up flowers when she gets to the San Francisco Ferry Building" and the Google Assistant will then recognize when Claire gets to the Ferry Building and pop up a reminder when she gets there.

You can only send and receive Assignable Reminders from people who are in your Google Family Group or people who have their accounts linked to the same smart display or smart speaker as you and are voice matched. The recipient of a reminder must also be in the senders' Google Contacts. This means that you won't be getting reminders from random people. You also have the option of blocking anyone from sending you reminders through the new Assignable Reminders section in the Google Assistant settings.

Assignable Reminders will roll out over the next few weeks in English on phones, speakers, and smart displays in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. They'll also work with the Google Nest Hub Max when it launches later this fall.

This is a pretty great new feature for Google Assistant. You've been able to set reminders for a while now, but with Assignable Reminders you can remind a specific person of a task rather than having the same reminder viewable to everyone. If you've got several people in your household, like a family with multiple kids, these Assignable Reminders can make it easier to keep everyone's schedule straight.
