Ahead of its official launch, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G+ has come out on top in DxOMark's smartphone camera rankings.
The Galaxy Note 10+ 5G put up an overall score of 113 points in DxOMark's testing, beating out the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G that held the previous best score of 112 points. The Note 10+ 5G also beat notable smartphones like the OnePlus 6 Pro, iPhone XS Max, Xiaomi Mi 9, and Google Pixel 3, as well as its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 9.
Looking at photos specifically, DxOMark says that the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G offers consistent and accurate exposures across a range of lighting conditions and a wide dynamic range in bright conditions to hel preserve highlight and shadow detail and get you good exposure on faces. DxOMark also praised the Note 10+ 5G for getting you "vivid and pleasant" color in most settings thanks to a generally neutral white balance, high levels of saturation, and accurate rendering.
The Note 10+ 5G's 2x optical zoom is said to offer high levels of detail, low noise, and good color in close zoom shots, though it's not quite as good at longer focal lengths when digital zoom processing comes in. Bokeh shots using Portrait Mode are said to be better here, too, with better texture on faces than the S10 5G and "generally very good" subject isolation.
DxOMark does say that the Note 10+ 5G does suffer from some ringing, aliasing, and loss of localized detail and that there's some occasional noise in dark areas of both indoor and outdoor photos. Overall, though, the Note 10+ 5G is described as a "solid all-rounder" with "excellent exposure, color, detail and bokeh" for stills.
The Note 10+ 5G is said to offer solid video recording capabilities, too, getting you a wide dynamic range that preserves good detail in the highlights of high-contrast situations. However, the Note 10+ 5G's video capture does suffer from a "pinkish color cast" as well as coarse noise and a loss of texture in low light.
When it comes to selfies, the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G is said to offer good exposure on faces down to very low light levels and a wide dynamic range that'll get you good highlight and shadow details in high-contrast situations. Skin tones are typically rendered pleasantly, too, and the auto white balance is said to get you good results in bright light and indoor shots. However, the Note 10+ 5G does suffer from some desaturated skin tones in low light.
Samsung's flagship Galaxy phones are regularly in the conversation when it comes to the best smartphone cameras on the market, and now the upcoming Note 10+ 5G has topped DxOMark rankings. That's exciting news for anyone who was already set on buying a Note 10+ 5G when it launches, and if you're in the market for a new smartphone and camera performance is an important factor for you, the Note 10+ 5G seems like one to consider. If you're not looking to jump on the 5G bandwagon right away, the regular Note 10+ offers the same image and video quality experience.
