In the days following the introduction of the Galaxy Note 10, there's been a bit of back-and-forth on whether the frame of Samsung's new flagship is stainless steel or aluminum. A Samsung promo video said that the Note 10 and Note 10+ have stainless steel frames, but the company has now confirmed that that's not the case.
Samsung says that the Galaxy Note 10 frame is made of aluminum, not stainless steel. The company confirmed that to The Verge, meaning that Samsung opted to go with an aluminum frame on the Note 10 like it has with its other recent flagships.
In a Samsung promo video that's still live on YouTube, the Note 10 is touted as having stainless steel on its body. "Stainless steel and glass meld seamlessly to minimize bezels," the video says. SamMobile notes that the official Samsung website also listed the Note 10 as having "high-polish stainless steel and glass". Now Samsung has uploaded a new promo that completely omits the line about stainless steel, and the website has been updated to say "high-polish metal and glass."
There's no official explanation for why Samsung said the Note 10 had stainless steel and then had to backtrack. It's possible that it was considering using stainless steel but ultimately went aluminum and the people making Samsung's advertising didn't get word of the change.
Upgrading the Note 10 to stainless steel might've helped make it seem like a more premium flagship, but other recent Samsung flagships have used aluminum and been plenty high-end, and so the Note 10 should be fine with aluminum as well. This is just something to be aware of if you're thinking about upgrading to the Note 10 and hear that it's got a stainless steel frame.
