AT&T's 5G network is expanding again.

AT&T 5G is now live in New York City. AT&T tells PhoneDog that its 5G coverage is initially available in parts of the East Village, Greenwich Village, and Gramercy Park areas. Business customers and developers will be the first to access AT&T's 5G coverage.

As in AT&T's other 5G markets, the 5G coverage in NYC uses millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum. AT&T does plan to begin deploying sub-6GHz 5G coverage in the coming months, which can reach farther than mmWave but isn't quite as speedy. AT&T plans to offer nationwide 5G coverage in the first half of 2020.

New York City is AT&T's 21st 5G market. The other cities include Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisville, Nashville, New Orleans, New York City, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Raleigh, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Waco. AT&T plans to deploy its 5G network to at least 30 cities in 2019, with Chicago, Cleveland, and Minneapolis among the cities slated to get AT&T 5G.
