The Samsung Galaxy Fold is a hot topic in mobile right now following its broken displays and subsequent delay. Now Samsung Electronics CEO DJ Koh has talked a bit more about the device and given us an idea of why the phone may have suffered from the issues that affected it.
Koh admits that he pushed the Galaxy Fold through before it had been fully tested. "It was embarrassing. I pushed it through before it was ready," the CEO explained to The Independent.
Koh added that as a result of the Galaxy Fold's display issues, Samsung has beefed up its testing procedures and has even tested for some issues that it hadn't thought of previously. "I do admit I missed something on the foldable phone, but we are in the process of recovery," said Koh. "At the moment, more than 2,000 devices are being tested right now in all aspects. We defined all the issues. Some issues we didn’t even think about, but thanks to our reviewers, mass volume testing is ongoing."
Several reviewers had the main display on their Galaxy Fold break within a day or two of getting the device. Some issues were caused by the removal of a protective layer that looked like a screen protector but wasn't meant to be removed, and Samsung has said that it plans to offer better guidance on the care and use of the Fold, including that protective layer. Samsung also plans to improve the display protection, as substances found inside the device could affect the screen's performance.
Unfortunately, we still don't know when the Galaxy Fold will actually launch. Samsung recently said that the foldable phone is ready for launch after its issues have been ironed out, so hopefully we hear more soon.
