Remember that Android Auto redesign that Google announced nearly two months ago? It's finally begun rolling out.
Some users on Reddit say that they've gotten the new Android Auto design after updating their app to the latest version, which is 4.4.592344 (via Android Police). It does appear to be a server-side update, though, so even if you have the latest version of the app, you've got to wait for the switch to be flipped for you.
The new-look Android Auto brings with it several improvements. There's a dark theme, colorful accents, and easier-to-read fonts to improve visibility, as well as a new navigation bar that'll show turn-by-turn directions and let you controls your apps and phone all from the same screen. A new notification center is also included that'll show recent calls, messages, and alerts. Google says your media will continue playing as soon as you start your car, too, and you'll be greeted by your chosen navigation app.
Auto interfaces like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are important because they help folks get directions, stay connected, and listen to media while being safer behind the wheel. It's good to see Google improving the usability and visibility of Android Auto, and this new version looks like a great update.
