Samsung hasn't said much about a new Galaxy Fold launch date ever since it announced the foldable phone's delay last month, but more information may be coming soon.
Samsung mobile chief Koh Dong-jin has said that his company will "reach a conclusion in a couple of days" on the Galaxy Fold's launch, reports The Korea Herald. This decision comes after Samsung has reviewed the issues with the Galaxy Fold caused by substances entering the phone.
When asked if the Galaxy Fold might be able to launch in the U.S. by the end of May, Koh said, "We will not be too late."
Last month, some Galaxy Fold units suffered from broken displays just days after they were given to reviewers. Some of the problems were caused by the removal of a protective layer on the display, but Samsung says that damage was also caused by substances found on the exposed areas at the top and bottom of the Galaxy Fold's hinge.
Samsung is now working to resolve these issues by strengthening the durability of the exposed areas on the hinge and minimizing the gap between the protective layer and the bezel of the main screen to prevent any particles from getting inside the device.
The Galaxy Fold was originally slated to launch on April 26th, but Samsung delayed the release of the $1,980 device while it investigates the problems with the broken displays on review units. It recently informed pre-order customers that unless they confirmed that they still wanted their reservation, the pre-order would be cancelled if the Fold doesn't launch by May 31st. It remains to be seen if Samsung will make that deadline, but Samsung's mobile head seems to think that they might.
