OnePlus today dropped another teaser for the OnePlus 7 series ahead of the devices' official announcement on May 14th.
In a teaser video posted to Twitter, a device is shown being dropped into a bucket of water, implying that it's water-resistant. Unfortunately, we can't make out any details of the phone itself, but we do see a block rectangle being dropped into a bucket of water and causing a splash.
Waterproof ratings for phones cost you money. We just bought a bucket. #OnePlus7Series https://t.co/Q0eAKsfMEw pic.twitter.com/4f0RmNpI2t

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei touched a bit more on the OnePlus 7 phones and water resistance in a post on OnePlus's official forums. Pei explains that while getting an IP rating would be the best way to prove the OnePlus 7's water resistance, "the certification doesn’t help us communicate our focus on your real experience." He adds that the video is not a "bucket challenge" and that you shouldn't try to drop your OnePlus 7 in a bucket of water because OnePlus's warranty does not cover water damage.
OnePlus has previously said that the cost of putting its phones through IP certification isn't worth it, and it's likely that that's the case with the OnePlus 7 series, too. OnePlus has always been focused on pricing its phones aggressively, and paying to get IP certification would be an added cost that OnePlus would likely rather avoid. So don't be surprised when the OnePlus 7 phones are announced and there's no IP rating attached to them. If you do end up in the rain with your OP7 or you spill a drink on it, though, it should be fine.
