Nubia is a company that's been pushing hard into the trend of gaming smartphones, and today it revealed the follow-up to its Red Magic Mars.
The Red Magic 3 features an active cooling system with an internal turbo fan. We've seen some gaming phones with fan add-ons meant to help keep the devices cool, but this Red Magic 3 has a fan built into its body that can reach a maximum speed of 14,000 RPM and a life of 30,000 hours. Despite being built into the phone, Nubia says that this fan includes IP55 water resistance.
In addition to that fan, the Red Magic 3 includes liquid cooling tech. When you combine both that liquid cooling and the built-in fan, they can help to dissipate heat by 500 percent.
Nubia has also equipped the Red Magic 3 with high-end specs that you'd expect from a gaming-focused smartphone. There's a large 6.65-inch 2340x1080 AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 855 processor, up to a whopping 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. There are dual speakers built into the front of the device, and for those times you want to use headphones, there's a 3.5mm jack included as well.
There are touch-sensitive triggers on one side of the Red Magic 3 to give you added buttons while you're gaming as well as a hardware switch that'll toggle Red Magic Game Space 2.0. With this gaming dashboard, you can organize and quickly launch your games, fine-tune the performance settings and fan speeds, monitor temperature and usage numbers, and block notifications while you're gaming.
The Red Magic 3 also comes equipped with a 48MP rear camera with Sony IMX586 sensor that offers super slow motion video capture as well as 8K video recording. Around front there's a 16MP camera with self-portrait beauty mode. A 5000mAh battery powers the Red Magic 3, and Nubia has included 27W fast charge support to help you more quickly fill that battery so that you can get back to gaming. The phone comes with Android 9.0 preinstalled, Nubia says the software is "stock-like" and without bloatware or heavy skinning.
Nubia is launching the Red Magic 3 in China on May 3rd, followed by releases in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and EU on May. Pricing starts at 2899 RMB ($431 USD) for the 6GB/64GB model and goes up to 3199 RMB ($475 USD) for the 6GB/128GB version. The Red Magic 3 tops out at 4299 RMB ($639 USD) for the 12GB/256GB variant.
It's kind of crazy to think that there are now gaming smartphones with built-in cooling fans, but we've seen gaming phones borrow features like customizable RGB lighting from gaming PCs, and so it was only a matter of time before built-in fans made the jump from computers to phones as well. The good news is that at least Nubia gave the fan IP55 water resistance so that you don't have to worry about an exposed fan getting wet.
