After rolling out as a hidden Easter egg feature last month, Facebook Messenger's dark mode is now ready for its full launch.
Facebook Messenger users can now enable dark mode by jumping into the app's settings by tapping your profile photo in the upper left corner and flipping the "Dark mode" toggle. This will switch the app's background from white to black, giving you lower brightness while maintaining contrast and vibrancy. Enabling dark mode could help to save some battery life on phones with OLED screens.
Dark mode is available on Android and iOS devices. We've seen a rise in the popularity of dark modes in apps lately thanks to more phones launching with OLED screens, and so it's nice to see Facebook Messenger get a dark mode of its own. Now you won't be blinded by a bright white user interface when chatting with your friends at night.
Once you've enabled dark mode in Facebook Messenger, let us know what you think of it!
