New month, new Android security patches from Google.
Google today released the April 2019 Android security patches for Pixel devices. That means the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel and Pixel XL can all be updated. Unfortunately for Pixel C owners, Google has not included the Pixel tablet in this round of updates.
If you've got one of those Pixel phones, you can wait for the OTA update to make its way to your phone or check for the update manually. Google also offers factory images and OTA images if you'd prefer to sideload the update.
In its Android Security Bulletin, Google explains that the 2019-04-01 security patch level addresses vulnerabilities related to the framework, media framework, and system. The 2019-04-05 security patch level fixes issues related to the system, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components.
Google has also included some functional patches for its Pixel phones in the April 2019 update. Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners can look forward to improved voice-unlocking performance for Google Assistant, adjusted Wi-Fi connectivity during eSIM activation on certain carriers, and the removal of a screen flash when ambient display wakes for some Pixel 3 devices. Meanwhile, Pixel and Pixel XL owners are getting improved Bluetooth connectivity.
Let us know when the April 2019 update hits your Pixel device!
