We've seen smartphone manufacturers come up with a few different ways of making edge-to-edge screens that also include front cameras. There's the notch, the hole-punch, the slider design, and the pop-up mechanism. Now ZTE has cooked up a couple more designs.
The ZTE Axon V and Axon S offer edge-to-edge screens along with two different ways of implementing front-facing cameras. The Axon V has a small protrusion on the upper right side of its body that holds two selfie cams, while the Axon S has a landscape sliding design with a triple camera setup. We've seen full screen phones with slider designs before, but those had portrait slider designs.
Details on these devices are pretty light, but the ZTE Axon V is said to include a 6.8-inch display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. We can also see a dual camera setup on the back of the device. The ZTE Axon V is rumored to launch in 2019.
Meanwhile, the ZTE Axon S is said to include an LCD screen with 95 percent screen-to-body ratio and an in-display fingerprint sensor. The triple camera setup reportedly includes a 5x optical zoom and a 48MP snapper. Like the Axon V, the Axon S could launch in 2019.
These ZTE designs are pretty interesting ways to get around using a notch or hole-punch. The Axon V and its camera protrusion could make holding the phone in landscape orientation a bit awkward, but it also doesn't use any mechanical parts so you don't need to worry about a sliding mechanism wearing out or breaking. Meanwhile, the Axon S's landscape slider could be easier to use than a portrait slider when your capturing photos and videos in landscape mode.
What do you think of these ZTE designs?
