Last year, Google Home speakers got a new feature called Continued Conversation that let you ask the Google Assistant a question and then ask a follow-up or perform another action without having to repeat the "Hey Google" phrase. Now that feature is rolling out to smart displays, too.
Google is adding Continued Conversation support to smart displays today. The feature is available in English (U.S.) across all smart displays, including the Google Home Hub, Lenovo Smart Display, JBL Link View, and LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9.
Continued Conversation is an optional setting that you can enable in the Google Assistant app by going into Settings > Preferences > Continued Conversation. Once toggled on, you can trigger the Google Assistant using the "Hey Google" phrase and then the Assistant will stay active long enough to respond to follow-up requests without you having to use the "Hey Google" phrase each time.
Having to repeat "Hey Google" over and over when you've got a few different requests for the Google Assistant can be annoying, but this Continued Conversation feature fixes that. It's kind of strange that it took this long for Google to bring the feature to smart displays after rolling it out to its Home speakers last summer, but hey, at least it's finally here.
