Amazon is known for offering affordable Android tablets in a variety of sizes, and today one of those models is getting an upgrade.
Amazon is launching a new Fire HD 8 tablet with a couple of notable upgrades. First up is support of hands-free Alexa. With this feature, you can ask Alexa to do things like play a song, control your smart home devices, or start a video call, even when the screen is off. You do need to be connected to Wi-Fi for this feature to work.
Another notable upgrade of this new Amazon Fire HD 8 is its front-facing camera. The previous Fire HD 8 had a VGA front cam, but the new model is packing a 2MP front camera, which should be a nice little upgrade for your video calls.
The new Amazon Fire HD 8 also boasts an 8-inch 1280x800 display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage. There is a microSD card slot, too, if you need more storage than what's built in. Amazon has included a 3.5mm headphone jack for your entertainment needs, a 2MP rear camera, and a battery that's rated to last up to 10 hours on a single charge.
The new Amazon Fire HD 8 is now available for pre-order in black, blue, yellow, and red color options, and it'll begin shipping on October 4th.
Amazon is rolling out an upgraded Fire HD 8 Kids Edition, too. This model includes the same upgraded 2MP front-facing camera as the standard Fire HD 8 as well as the same 8-inch 1280x 800 display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 3.5mm headphone jack. There's a microSD card slot included, too, along with 32GB of built-in storage.
Like other Kids Edition tablets from Amazon, this new Fire HD 8 Kids Edition comes with a protective case and a two-year worry-free guarantee. If your child breaks this tablet within your first two years of ownership, Amazon will replace it.
