Google devoted some of its I/O 2018 keynote to new digital wellness features that are coming with Android P, and now a new report claims that we should expect the same from Apple at WWDC 2018.
iOS 12 will include a focus on Digital Health, an effort from Apple that aims to help users keep track of how much they're using their device. Details on device and app usage will be built into a Settings menu in iOS 12, says a report from Bloomberg.
There's been a lot of talk lately about smartphone addiction, and now Google and Apple seem to be working to address those concerns by adding digital wellness features into Android and iOS. These features will help users see how much they're using their phone and, if necessary, determine that they need to try and curb their usage a bit.
Augmented reality is expected to be another major focus of iOS 12. It's said that Apple is working on new "ARKit 2.0" software with new features like the ability for users play AR games against each other in the same virtual environment. ARKit 2.0 will also allegedly let users place objects into an area and keep them there virtually.
Other, smaller additions to iOS 12 will reportedly include new features related to snoozing notifications, stocks, video calls, and Animojis. More predictive Siri features are expected to come later this year.
On the hardware side, today's report says that Apple is working on new Apple Watch hardware with slightly bigger, edge-to-edge screens. Despite the larger screen, it's said that the new Apple Watch will be the same overall size as the current model and will work with existing watch bands, which is good news for anyone with an extensive band collection.
It's also rumored that Apple will launch redesigned iPad Pro hardware with Face ID, but that that device won't be announced at WWDC next month.
WWDC 2018 runs from June 4-8, and it's likely that we'll get our first look at iOS 12 there.
