Google is starting the week off with some exciting news for Pixel and Nexus owners, because a new Android 8.1 preview is available!
Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 has been released for the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. If you're in the Android Beta Program, you should get this update over the air in the coming days.
This is the final Android 8.1 preview. Google says that the full Android 8.1 update will be released to the public in December.
As for what's new in this update, Google says that Pixel 2 owners will get the Pixel Visual Core. This will enable camera app developers to utilize the HDR+ functionality of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, giving you the same functionality in third-party camera apps.
The Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 is a near-final release that includes official APIs, the latest optimizations and bug fixes, and the November 2017 Android security patches.
When it's released, Android 8.1 will also include a Neural Networks API to speed up on-device machine intelligence and optimizations for Android Go for devices with 1GB of RAM or less.
