T-Mobile rolled out a new rate plan this week, but it's only going to appeal to certain customers.
T-Mobile now offers an Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan. Priced at $25 per line per month, this plan offers unlimited talk and text, including in Mexico and Canada. What it doesn't offer is any kind of cellular data, including any option to add data packs.
This means that if you've got a smartphone, the only way that you'll be able to use data is by finding Wi-Fi connections. T-Mobile says that features like MMS, VoLTE, and Wi-Fi Calling all work with the Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan, but you'll need to use Wi-Fi for services like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger.
You can add a T-Mobile One tablet or mobile internet line alongside the Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan if you want cellular data on other devices.
T-Mo's new plan also only works with certain promotions. Offers like Carrier Freedom and #GetOutoftheRed aren't eligible, but customers do get 1 hour of free Gogo inflight Wi-Fi service and T-Mobile Tuesdays. Just keep in mind that you'll need to get on Wi-Fi to actually use T-Mobile Tuesdays.
The new Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan is now available to new and existing T-Mobile customers. It's not available for No Credit Check or Prepaid customers, and you can't add it to existing family plans on the same account.
To sign up for the Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan, you'll need to visit a T-Mobile store or call customer service at 1-800-TMOBILE.
As I said before, T-Mobile's new Unlimited Talk & Text Only plan isn't going to appeal to everyone. What it will be good for is customers that are pretty light data users and don't mind relying on Wi-Fi for their data needs, or for people that would rather get a data plan for a tablet and use it for all of their data needs.
