Samsung isn’t likely to announce the Galaxy S8 at its upcoming MWC 2017 event, but that doesn’t mean that news about the device is going to be dead in the coming weeks.
A new report claims to give us another look at the Samsung Galaxy S8. The renders of the GS8 are allegedly based on the description of someone that’s viewed the Galaxy S8 phones. We can see a USB Type-C port, speaker, and 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom of the phone, volume rocker and power/lock button on one side, and a lone button on the other side that’ll allegedly be used for launching Bixby, Samsung’s rumored digital assistant.
Also of note is that today’s report backs up previous rumors about the Galaxy S8 losing the combination Home button and fingerprint reader that was present on the past few Galaxy S flagships. Instead, the Galaxy S8 will have a fingerprint reader on the back of the phone, to the right of its rear camera.
Finally, today’s leak says that the Galaxy S8 will be offered with 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screen sizes — these renders show the smaller model — both of which will have curved edge displays.
Nothing is official until Samsung says it is, so these Galaxy S8 details and images are still rumors. That said, we’re starting to see several separate reports about the GS8 phones that have similar details, giving the rumors a bit more credence.
Based on what we’ve seen in the leaked Galaxy S8 photos and renders, Samsung’s new flagship phones could be polarizing. While the design isn’t terribly different from the Galaxy S7, some folks may be be bothered by the fact that there’s no smaller screen size like the 5-inch GS7, while others might hate the placement of the rear fingerprint reader to the right of the camera. We’ll have to wait until Samsung actually launches the GS8 and we can spend some hands-on time with the phones before we make any judgments.
