After debuting in late September, Snap Inc.’s Spectacles are now available for purchase. There is one catch, though, which is that you can only buy them from one location.
Snap Inc. is selling its Spectacles from a special Snapbot vending machine located near Venice Beach, Calif. You can see the Snapbot above, which will let you buy a pair of black, coral, or teal Spectacles for $129.99.
Spectacles are special sunglasses with a 115-degree wide angle camera built into them. They connect to your smartphone with the Snapchat app, and when you tap the button near the hinge, the Spectacles will capture up to 10 seconds of video that’ll wirelessly sync to your smartphone so that you can share it to Snapchat.
We haven’t really seen smart glasses take off yet, following Google Glass’s failure to catch on. Snap Inc.’s Spectacles are pretty different from Google Glass, though, because they’re cheaper, they look fashionable, and they work with Snapchat, one of the most popular apps around right now. Only people near Venice Beach, Calif., can try Spectacles right now, but here’s to hoping that availability expands soon so that more of us can put them on our faces.
