Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL will come with Android 7.1 in tow when they launch later this month, but owners of existing Nexus devices are probably wondering when they’ll get the new version of Nougat, too.
Google says that it’ll offer an Android 7.1 developer preview before the end of 2016. This dev preview will be offered to Nexus devices and the Pixel C.
Unfortunately, Google didn’t provide many other details, so it’s unclear exactly which Nexuses will get the Android 7.1 dev preview or which features might be included. One detail worth noting, though, is that Google has confirmed to Android Police that the Pixel Launcher is exclusive to Pixel devices (at least for a little bit), so it doesn’t sound like the new Google widget and round icons to hit Nexus devices with Android 7.1.
Google offered developer previews for Android 6.0 and Android 7.0, so it’s not super surprising that it’ll offer a dev preview for Android 7.1, too. These previews let Google test their updates with more users outside of Google before unleashing them to the public.
If you’ve got a Nexus or Pixel C, will you install this Android 7.1 preview?
