When Lenovo introduced the Phab2 Pro, the first consumer Google Tango phone, the company said that it’d launch in September. The release was then pushed to a vague “fall” release, but now we’ve got a more concrete release window for the device.
Lenovo’s Phab2 Pro will launch in November, says Clay Bavor, head of virtual reality at Google. The Phab2 Pro will cost $499 and will be available online and in select Lowe’s and Best Buy stores.
The main draw of the Phab2 Pro is its Tango technology, which helps the phone create augmented reality (AR) experiences. It does this using sensors and software that can take 250,000 measurements in a second. One AR experience comes from Lowe’s and will let you measure spaces and visualize how products will look in a room.
The Phab2 Pro is a fairly high-end device, offering specs like a 6.4-inch 2560x1440 display, 16-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of RAM, and a 4,050mAh battery. While it’s being touted as a Tango phone, the Phab2 Pro could be a worth a look for folks that just want a regular smartphone, especially considering its $499 price point. Just keep in mind that if you do buy the Phab2 Pro, you’ll be living with a smartphone that has a 6.4-inch display.
