YouTube today introduced a new app aimed at helping consumers with slower network connections enjoy Youtube’s videos.
YouTube Go is now official, and it’s got four big features to help it stand out. The first are video previews, which will show several thumbnails from a video so that you can decide if you want to watch the whole thing before actually playing or saving it.
Also included is the ability to choose the resolution of a video before saving or streaming. YouTube Go will offer different quality options for videos, and it’ll also show how much data each option will use.
When you’re looking for a new video to watch, you can use YouTube Go’s home screen recommendations, which will show trending and popular videos in your area.
Finally, YouTube Go will let you quickly share videos with friends nearby using Bluetooth.
YouTube Go will roll out to select users over the coming months, during which time Google will gather feedback and improve the app ahead of its full public launch. The full launch will happen in 2017. YouTube Go appears aimed at India, and it’s unclear when or if it’ll be released to other regions.
