If you’re waiting for new Android Wear smartwatches from companies like Moto and Huawei, well, you’re going to have to wait awhile.
Huawei, LG, and Moto have all confirmed that they won’t be launching any new Android Wear smartwatches during the remainder of 2016. The companies gave different reasons for their decisions, with Huawei saying that it wants to wait for smaller components and a more efficient processor before launching a Huawei Watch 2.
Meanwhile, LG is waiting to “see what sticks” with consumers before launching a new watch. A Lenovo spokesperson said that Moto sees connected smartwatches as the future, but that “the trade-offs on the product itself means we’re not quite ready yet.”
There’s been no shortage of new Android-friendly smartwatches announced lately, including new offerings from Samsung, Polar, and Michael Kors. It’s understandable that some folks would be disappointing by today’s news, though, because devices like the Huawei Watch and Moto 360 (2nd Gen.) are some of the more popular Android Wear smartwatches that we’ve seen. That said, these companies don’t want to waste their time and ours with a product that they don’t believe in, so for now we’ll just have to continue to watch for a Huawei Watch 2, Moto 360 (3rd Gen.), and a new LG Watch Urbane.
