With just a couple of days to go before Apple’s iPhone 7 event, one of the most detailed reports regarding Apple’s new phone has surfaced.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has posted accurate Apple reports in the past, has shared new details on what he says will be included with the iPhone 7. Kuo says that we can expect a new Apple A10 processor in the iPhone 7 along with 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 7 and 3GB in the iPhone 7 Plus. Storage options will reportedly be 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
Speaking of options, Kuo claims that there will be five colors available on the iPhone 7. Those include silver, gold, rose gold, a “dark black” that’ll replace the Space Gray color of the iPhone 6, and a “piano black” color with a glossy finish.
Another notable feature of the iPhone 7, according to Kuo, will be IPX7 water resistance. That would make the iPhone 7 match the Apple Watch in terms of water resistance.
Kuo also reiterates that the iPhone 7 will likely ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack found on past models. Rather than place another speaker there instead of the 3.5mm jack, Kuo suggests that Apple will put a speaker in the earpiece to give the iPhone 7 stereo sound when in landscape.
Rounding out the new features that Kuo says are coming to the iPhone 7 are wider color displays, a pressure-sensitive home button that doesn’t actually click, an upgraded rear camera flash, an upgraded proximity sensor, and a dual lens rear camera on the iPhone 7 Plus that’ll offer two 12-megapixel sensors. One will reportedly be a wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization, while the second will be a telephoto lens.
The design of the iPhone 7 will reportedly be very similar to the iPhone 6 and 6s, but if today’s report holds true, there could end up being a number of noteworthy features on the iPhone 7. The new processor will likely offer improved performance, and the two new black color options will help iPhone 7 owners to ensure that their device stands out, even if its design is similar to the iPhone 6 and 6s.
If this report holds true, it’ll be interesting to see how many people opt for the iPhone 7 Plus. Many people use their smartphone as their only camera, and the dual lens rear camera setup could be a big enough upgrade over the iPhone 7’s single camera to convince some folks to go Plus. And while Apple likely won’t advertise the amount of RAM inside the phones, the 3GB of RAM in the iPhone 7 Plus could help to push spec hounds to go for the bigger phone.
