The wave of news phones from IFA 2016 continues with Huawei, who today took the wraps off of two new Android handsets.
The Huawei Nova and Nova Plus are now officially official. The Nova is a mid-range handset that runs Android 6.0 beneath Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 on a 5-inch 1920x1080 IPS display. It’s also got 12-megapixel rear camera that can capture 4K video and an 8-megapixel front camera.
Inside of the Huawei Nova is an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor that’s paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, 22GB of which is available to the user. If that’s not enough, you can pop a microSD card into the Nova to get yourself some additional storage.
Rounding out the Nova’s feature list is a 3,020mAh battery, a USB Type-C port, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, and a metallic backside.
What’s interesting about the Huawei Nova is that it appears to be borrowing some design choices form the Nexus 6P, which is also made by Huawei. While the Nova isn’t nearly as high-end as the 6P, it is quite a bit smaller than the Nexus 6P, so the Nova makes the 6P design available to consumers that found the Nexus 6P and its 5.7-inch display too large.
As you might expect, the Huawei Nova Plus is larger than the regular Nova. It’s got a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 IPS panel, and it’s had its rear camera bumped up to a 16-megapixel resolution and its battery to 3,340mAh.
Outside of those few tweaks, the Nova Plus’s spec list is largely similar to the regular Nova’s. The Nova Plus has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot, Android 6.0 with EMUI 4.1, a fingerprint reader, USB Type-C, and an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor.
The Nova and Nova Plus will launch in October in Prestige Gold, Mystic Silver, and Titanium Grey color options. Pricing will be set at €399 ($446 USD) for the Nova and €429 ($480 USD) for the Nova Plus.
