Back in July, Verizon launched an all-new Verizon Plan with several new features like Safety Mode, which would let you avoid data overages by giving you unlimited throttled data after your high-speed bucket was used. Customers on the smaller Verizon Plans had to pay $5 per month for Safety Mode, but now that’s changing.
Verizon has revealed that starting Sept. 6, Safety Mode will be included with every plan. Previously, Safety Mode was only included with the largest XL (16GB) and XXL (24GB) plans, with customers on S (2GB), M (4GB) and L (8GB) plans paying extra to avoid overages. Once Sept. 6 rolls around, though, customers on S, M, and L plans will get Safety Mode for free, too.
With Safety Mode, you’ll get unlimited data that tops out at a speed of 128kbps once you use up your monthly allotment of high-speed data. When that billing cycle is over, you’ll return to browsing at high speeds. Obviously 128kbps isn’t very fast, but hey, it’s better than getting hit with an overage fee.
It’s also worth noting that if you do use up your high-speed data allotment but don’t feel like browsing the web at 128kbps, you can pay for more high-speed data that month at a rate of $15 per gigabyte.
