Following the launch of the Axon 7 earlier this year, ZTE is now taking the wraps off of a smaller version of its flagship Axon, aptly named the Axon 7 Mini.

The ZTE Axon 7 Mini is a smidge smaller than its Axon 7 sibling, offering a 5.2-inch 1920x1080 AMOLED display while the Axon 7’s got a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 AMOLED screen. The Axon 7 Mini is also physically smaller than the Axon 7, measuring in at 147.5 x 71 x 7.8mm while the Axon 7 is 151.7 x 75 x 7.9mm.

In addition to its smaller frame, the Axon 7 Mini also offers a slightly scaled back spec list compared to the Axon 7. The Mini has an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, dual SIM slots (one of which can double as a microSD slot) and a non-removable 2,705mAh battery. Also on offer here is a 16-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and phase detection autofocus as well as an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

While the Axon 7 Mini may not be quite as high-end as the Axon 7, it does retain some of the notable sound features of its big sibling. For example, the Axon 7 Mini has dual front-facing stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, and active noise cancellation thanks to its dedicated dual mic setup.

Rounding out the Axon 7 Mini’s feature set is Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and support for LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7,  8, 12, 17, 20, 38, 40, and 41.

ZTE will launch the Axon 7 Mini in the U.S., Russia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Japan, Australia, India, and Saudi Arabia. In all markets except for the U.S., it’ll launch at the end of September for €299 ($333 USD). There’s no word yet on the Axon 7 Mini’s U.S. launch or pricing details.

It’ll be interesting to see how ZTE prices the Axon 7 Mini here in the U.S. The regular Axon 7 is priced at $399, and if the Axon 7 Mini could come in at $299 (or even less), it could make for an interesting option for folks that want an affordable, smaller Android smartphone.
