Looks like Samsung will follow up the Galaxy Note 7’s August announcement with a new wearable in September.
Samsung is sending out invitations for its IFA 2016 event, which will happen on Thursday, September 1. The invitation features the minute and second hands of a watch, hinting that a new watch will be shown at the event.
We’ll have to wait until September 1 before we know exactly what Samsung has planned for its event, but the debut of the Gear S3 seems likely. The Gear S2 made its debut at IFA in 2015, almost exactly one year before Samsung’s IFA 2016 event.
The Gear S2 is a round smartwatch that runs Tizen rather than Android Wear. Because the recently released Gear Fit 2 also runs Tizen, it seems likely that the Gear S3 will be powered by Tizen as well. The good news is that Samsung made it so that the Gear S2 can work with non-Samsung Android phones, so hopefully we’ll see a similar feature included with the Gear S3.
What do you want to see from the Samsung Gear S3?
