Republic Wireless today announced a major new feature to its service: Bring Your Own Phone support.
Republic now sells SIM cards, allowing you to bring your own phone to the service rather than buying a device from Republic. You can’t bring just any old device to the service, though, as it must be one of the nine that Republic already sells. Those are:
Republic Wireless SIM cards will normally cost $5 apiece, but for today (August 11) only, Republic is offering them for free.
Once you’ve got your SIM card, you can pop it into your phone and follow the instructions included with your SIM to get your phone activated onto Republic’s service.
Republic Wireless has come a long way since its launch in 2011 when it only offered the LG Optimus S. Today they have several different devices available, including several high-end Android flagships. And now that Republic offers SIM cards, it’s easy to give Republic a try with your existing phone, so long as you’ve got one of the nine already that they already offer.
