Hot on the heels of its big postpaid plan changes last week, Verizon today announced a notable tweak to its prepaid plans.

Verizon has added Always-On data to its prepaid plans. With this feature, customers will have slowed data once they use up their monthly high-speed allotment, ensuring that they can stay connected even if they’ve had a data-heavy month. Always-On Data will offer speeds of 128kbps for the remainder of the month.

Always-On Data applies to both the $45/2GB and $60/5GB plans. If you sign up for Auto Pay, you’ll get an extra 1GB of high-speed data each month. Both plans also included unlimited talk and text.

Verizon launched a similar feature on its postpaid plans earlier this month called Safety Mode. What’s interesting is customers with the S (2GB), M (4GB), and L (8GB) postpaid plans must pay $5 per month for Safety Mode, but Verizon’s prepaid customers get it for free. With this addition, Verizon’s prepaid plans have become better for existing customers and more enticing for those folks that aren’t yet on them.
