Wileyfox has made a name for itself by offering solid, affordable Android phones, and the company’s newest hardware doesn’t deviate from that formula.
The Wileyfox Spark is a new handset that runs Android 6.0 beneath Cyanogen OS 13.0. It's priced at £89.99/€119.99, but there are step-up models called the Spark+ and Spark X that offer higher-end specs and more expensive price tags.
The base Spark features a 5-inch 1280x720 display with 2.5D curved glass, 8-megapixel cameras on its front and rear, a quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, a 2200mAh removable battery, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage that you can expand using a microSD card. The Wileyfox Swift also comes unlocked, and it’s got dual SIM slots in case you have a secondary line that you’d like to run alongside your main line.
Stepping up to the Spark+ will get you double the storage (16GB), double the RAM (2GB), and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The Spark+ is priced at £114.99/€149.99.
The Spark X is the top-end model and is priced at £129.99/€169.99. If you go with the X, you’ll get a larger 5.5-inch display and a beefier 3000mAh battery.
The Wileyfox Spark is now available to pre-order ahead of its July 12 launch. There are several retailers to pre-order from, including Wileyfox itself, though Amazon is offering a free protective case and free screen replacement insurance with its orders.
Obviously the Wileyfox Spark isn’t the most high-end phone around, but it does offer some decent specs for its price. The Spark also offers a pretty clean design, which is good to see since affordable devices can sometimes look a bit cheap. We’ll have to wait until the Spark actually launches before making any real judgments about it, but if you’re in Europe and you’re looking for an affordable smartphone, the Spark definitely looks like one to consider.
