One of the highlight features of the Nextbit Robin is its cloud storage, which the phone intelligently uses to store apps and content that you haven’t recently used. Now Nextbit is teasing that it’s going to apply that same intelligence to improve battery life.
Nextbit has announced that it’s going to launch “a new version of Nextbit OS” in Q4. That update is going to make your battery last “significantly longer,” Nextbit says, but the company isn’t saying specifically how the OS will do that. Nextbit is only saying that the software will learn your habits and optimize its functions at the system level in order to give you the most screen-on time possible.
Smartphones are continually getting thinner and more powerful, but one feature that hasn’t evolved quite as much as other tech is battery life. As such, battery life continues to be a major concern with consumers. Google is working to improve Android battery life with Doze mode in Android Marshmallow and the Doze enhancements coming in Android N. Nextbit says that it’s going to build on top of those features with its own software update, and because battery life is such a big concern in the smartphone world, it’s going to be interesting to see if Nextbit really can dramatically extend the Robin’s battery life and how it does it.
