Google Now on Tap didn’t seem to get much love in the months following its launch with Android 6.0, but that appears to be changing. After gaining a couple of new tricks earlier this month, it looks like Now on Tap is getting updated again.
A new Google Now on Tap appears to be slowly rolling out. The updated Now On Tap includes a list of nearby places, helping you to explore restaurants, cafes, bards, shopping, gas stations, and other interesting places that are close to you. Above that are shortcuts for several commonly-used functions, including creating a new reminder, creating an event, setting an alarm, and navigating to home and work.
These functions are nothing new to Google Now and Now on Tap. For example, you could ask Google to start a timer and it would do so, or you could ask to see nearby gas stations and get the locations of nearby places for you to fuel up. Despite that, this new layout is notable because it lets you quickly perform several different functions without using your voice. Not everyone likes talking to their phone, and with this new-look Now On Tap, those folks are getting voice command-style shortcuts without having to use their voice.
